The grandest operas lack all music
In space
Pluck audacity and luck
Keep saving the human race
Centuries, epochs even eons on
Humans still battling beyond
The final mystery
Why must the galaxy repeat man’s history?
Star Wars Star Trek Stargate
The star always arrives almost too late
Starships racing faster than light
Battle in dog fights slow and in sight
Yet people always win
Once they expose trivial sins
Unless Japanese
Their gods and monsters much harder to please
Why is human self-importance so damned important?
Fiction makes sense
Not Earth’s history
Its unstoppered brutality
You kill your young
Then blame your sons
Euthanize so much of life
Proclaim the deserts free of strife
Human ants form their hills
Over mass tombs unstilled
Your planet is a pit stop
For extrasolar refugees
We come but mostly go
Knowing as we should know
You won’t be let out from your realm
Lethal farce might take the helm
Peace for you lives underground
Where talking heads speak sans sound
Above, the music of the spheres
Sings of your crimes
Can you hide the nature
Of human nature
Let your children see?
When you fall into bed
Repeat to yourself
Fantasy cannot save us
We must save ourselves
Touch the mirror and say it now
